The "Golden Sphere"

Thinking about "Roadside Picnic" and the subsequent "Stalker" movie and video games, I imagined how the "stalkers" adapted to the current technologies (in short - that's people who risk their life to go in the "the Zone" - officially forbidden area , changed forever since the visitation of something out of space , and retrieve one of the precious artefacts left there by our visitors ). Going in the Zone is dangerous for a multitude of reasons, frequent aerial surveillance by the military being one of them - so they repurposed a stolen all-purpose quadruped robot and attached the body shell of an abandoned retro car as a "camouflage" on top of him via sturdy support frame .That way when sensing approaching military chopper, the robot can duck in the overgrown landscape and avoid detection while the danger passes.

The "Golden Sphere" in question is the nickname of a , citing the Stalker fandom wiki , "The most desired and legendary artifact ..., which was rumored to have the power to make any wish come true, but was located so deep inside the Zone and surrounded by such deadly 'traps' that only one Stalker knew the route to reach it." (

The scene was assembled in Marmoset Toolbag 4, the scans for the rock assets are mine, the plants and the ground materials are from the Quixel library.

Here is the robot without the "camouflage " part. The movements i made jerky on purpose to avoid looking too smooth for a pretty beat up mechanical system.

and here is the "camouflaged " robot.

i wanted the robot to look like the actual working designs that currently exist ( some Boston Dynamics models being the main influence )

the car i chose is a retro Soviet classic FSO Syrena Sport. Finding the blueprints was very helpful while modeling the initial mesh in 3ds max

I wanted something cool painted on the front and the shape of the car front and grill pretty much gave me the idea of the black cat's muzzle ( if you guessed from his name which fictional character is this, you get a big bonus point ;)
